UPS MD-11 Severe Birdstrike During Takeoff

On January 25, 2025, a dramatic incident unfolded at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport when UPS Flight 5876, an MD-11F cargo aircraft, struck a large flock of birds just seconds after takeoff. The sudden bird strike forced the crew to respond immediately and assess the situation mid-air.

Demonstrating outstanding professionalism, the pilots coordinated with SDF Tower and initiated an urgent return to the airport. Despite the unexpected event, the crew maintained full control and safely landed the aircraft back on Runway 17R.
