Burglar Breaks Into San Diego Home, Only to Meet the Friendliest "Guard Dog"

A home burglary in San Diego on September 5 turned into a bizarre viral comedy captured by a Ring security camera.

Instead of facing a frightened or aggressive guard dog, the intruder caught the attention of four-year-old golden retriever Nash, who welcomed him like a new best friend.

The owners, who were on a plane at the time, watched live through their security cameras as the stranger made himself surprisingly comfortable inside their home. Thanks to Nash's reaction, the footage quickly reached millions of people online.

The burglar made himself at home

Dante Rowley and his fiancée were on a flight from Chicago when they noticed through the Ring app that a stranger was entering their home with the help of a ladder through an open window.

Once inside, the burglar acted as if he were at home – he took off his shoes, removed his shirt, helped himself to yogurt and snacks from the refrigerator, then lay down on the dog's bed and took a rest.

Instead of barking, the dog brought him a toy

Nash, who weighs around 40 kilograms, initially hid under the dining table, but his fear soon disappeared.

Instead of barking or defending the property, he wagged his tail at the intruder and brought him his favorite stuffed toy three times, apparently hoping for a game. The burglar showed little interest in his friendly attempts.

Nash greeted the police with a toy too

While on the plane, Dante used the wireless connection to contact police. Officers entered the house with their weapons drawn – and Nash greeted them too, toy in mouth and tail wagging happily.

The burglar was quickly arrested after fleeing through a bathroom window into the backyard. Rowley later joked that Nash was apparently "not exactly the best guard dog." Meanwhile, footage of the bizarre encounter has become a viral hit online.
