The most successful skier in World Cup history crashed just 13 seconds into her run at the Winter Olympics, sustaining a serious leg injury that abruptly ended her Olympic dream. Now, more details about her medical condition have emerged.

She checked in from hospital: »Third surgery was successful«

Lindsey Vonn shared an update on Wednesday, confirming that she had successfully undergone a third operation. Alongside photos from her hospital bed, she wrote:

"I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful. Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I'm making progress and while it is slow, I know I'll be ok. Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family, who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world. Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for."

A complex tibia fracture and multiple surgeries

Following the crash, Vonn was immediately flown by helicopter to Treviso, where doctors confirmed a complex fracture of her tibia that would require multiple surgical procedures. Prior to today's operation, she had already successfully undergone two surgeries.

In an earlier post, Vonn emphasized that the crash had nothing to do with her past injuries, but was caused by a tiny mistake in her racing line. Despite the intense physical pain, she told fans she has no regrets.

»I dared to dream – and that matters«

Vonn reflected that life, much like ski racing, involves risk. Sometimes we jump, sometimes we fall – but the greatest failure is never trying at all. She encouraged her followers to have the courage to dream big and take chances on themselves.

The crash that shocked the sports world

Although a long rehabilitation now lies ahead, Lindsey Vonn remains a symbol of courage and resilience. Her message is clear: dreaming is always worth it, even when the journey becomes painful.
