The Delta Flight 89 Dumps Fuel Over Los Angeles
A video clip of Delta Airlines' Boeing 777 flight landed on Twitter shortly after it took off from Los Angeles airport.
Due to an engine problem, they had to return to the airport and dumped fuel before landing.
The pilot dumped fuel in a populated area, including over several schools and a school playground where the children were at the time of the incident. According to the latest news, as many as 60 people needed medical attention, with 17 children injured.
Aviation rules state that airplanes can only release fuel in an emergency, but only in uninhabited areas and at a high enough altitude for fuel to be dispersed in the air before it lands on the ground.
About 60 people needed help in Los Angeles due to inhalation of harmful fumes and skin irritation. Firefighters confirmed the injuries were the result of dumped fuel.
