Tim Curry, the Famous Actor from Home Alone 2, Has Died at 80

The film world has been shaken by the death of Tim Curry, an actor who created a host of unforgettable characters during a career spanning more than five decades.

The British star died in Los Angeles at the age of 80, but beyond his iconic roles, audiences will also remember him as the hotel concierge from Home Alone 2.

Despite having only a limited amount of screen time, he created a character who became one of the most recognizable supporting figures in the Christmas movie classic.

He played the strict hotel concierge in Home Alone 2

In the 1992 film, Curry portrayed Mr. Hector, the head concierge at the prestigious Plaza Hotel. His character was the complete opposite of the carefree Kevin McCallister, as Hector was extremely strict, polished and, above all, suspicious.

When Kevin arrives at the hotel using his father's credit card, Hector quickly begins to question his story. Although the boy manages to outsmart him several times, the concierge remains determined to discover who the mysterious young guest really is.

Curry's facial expressions gave the character an especially memorable comedic touch. His wide, slightly sinister grin became one of the moments from the movie that stayed with audiences long after the credits rolled.

He was also unforgettable as Pennywise

Curry began his acting career in the 1960s, but his major breakthrough came with the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975.

Horror fans know him especially well as Pennywise from the 1990 television adaptation of It, based on the novel by Stephen King. His portrayal of the terrifying clown became one of the most recognizable images in television horror history.

His health problems greatly affected his later years

In 2012, Curry suffered a severe stroke and subsequently underwent extensive treatment. Its effects greatly limited his abilities, and in his later years he had to give up many activities that had once been an important part of his career.

He was born on April 19, 1946, in Grappenhall, England. He never married and had no children. He leaves behind a long acting career in which he successfully moved between theater, film and television. For many viewers, however, he will forever remain the slightly sinister Mr. Hector, chasing Kevin through the Plaza Hotel in Home Alone 2 with his unmistakable grin.
