Toyota SUV Flips Over Ledge in Hattiesburg with Driver Still Inside

A video of a Toyota hanging over the edge with its driver inside is circulating online, with the vehicle seemingly just one wrong move away from falling.

Two bystanders tried to help, but within seconds, the rescue attempt turned into a far more serious scene.

The incident happened on August 17 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and ended with the Toyota landing on its roof. The driver was taken to hospital after the dramatic fall. Later, another detail emerged that added a new dimension to the entire incident.

The Toyota was hanging over the edge

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. in the West 4th Street area of Hattiesburg. The Toyota had come to a stop on the edge of a concrete wall, with its front end already hanging over a deep drainage ditch.

The driver remained inside the vehicle, while two bystanders came to help. Instead of waiting for firefighters or a tow truck to arrive, they attempted to move the vehicle back to safety themselves.

The footage shows one of the men pushing down on the rear of the vehicle while the other tries to move it by pulling from behind. They rocked the vehicle back and forth, apparently hoping to get it back over the edge.

The rescue attempt ended in a fall

The attempt ended very differently from what they had likely expected. The Toyota suddenly shifted forward, lost its support and slid over the edge of the wall.

The SUV then struck the ditch nose-first and overturned onto its roof. Everything happened extremely quickly, leaving the driver with no chance to get out of the vehicle in time.

The driver suffered minor injuries

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics quickly arrived at the scene. Despite the fall and the vehicle overturning, the driver was fortunate to suffer only minor injuries. After receiving medical treatment, she was taken to hospital.

However, the incident did not end as merely an unusual traffic accident. After receiving medical treatment, police charged the driver with driving under the influence. She was also allegedly driving without a valid license and without insurance.
