Tragedy at the Airport: Plane Crashes into Helicopter, Sending Both Aircraft into Pieces
A tragic accident occurred at Carlisle Airport in Pennsylvania on August 19, 2026, with surveillance footage of the crash circulating online in recent days.
A two-seat Cessna 150 collided with a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, killing 57-year-old pilot and physician Paul Sokoloski. Two police officers aboard the helicopter were injured.

According to the preliminary findings of the investigation, the two crews were in radio communication shortly before the accident. The helicopter pilot reported their position, while the airplane pilot confirmed that he would extend his flight – despite the communication, the fatal collision occurred moments later.
The helicopter had limited visibility
The footage shows the helicopter hovering over the airport area during a training flight before moving over a grassy area. Because of its position and the direction it was facing, the helicopter crew could not directly see the Cessna approaching from behind.
The airplane then deviated from its intended path for an unknown reason and collided with the rotor of the hovering helicopter. A violent impact followed, sending both aircraft crashing to the ground.
Pilot killed, two police officers seriously injured
The Cessna 150 broke into four major sections upon impact with the ground, with debris scattered across the airport. The helicopter lost its rotors and tail section before tipping onto its side and partially onto its roof.
Paul Sokoloski died at the scene from his injuries. Police officers Bryce Corman and Jason Mills suffered serious injuries but were later released from the hospital after receiving treatment.
Exact cause of the crash remains unknown
The investigation is being led by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, NTSB. So far, investigators have reportedly found no evidence of a mechanical failure in either aircraft, but the investigation is still ongoing.
The final report is not expected to be completed for about a year, leaving unanswered questions about why the Cessna deviated from its path and how the fatal collision occurred despite the crews having communicated by radio beforehand.
