The 24-year-old Spanish rider Luis Salom crashed at Turn 12 at the challenging Montmelo track near Barcelona during Moto2 Free Practice 2.

He was transferred to the Hospital General de Catalunya where he underwent emergency surgery, but passed away at 4.55pm local time.
