United Boeing 767 Clips Truck on Highway During Landing
A United Airlines Boeing 767 arriving from Venice struck a streetlight and a tractor-trailer at 160 mph (257 kph) while crossing the New Jersey Turnpike just seconds before touchdown.
Although United Flight 169 landed safely with all 210 passengers unharmed, the impact of the landing gear tire sent the truck driver to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Dashcam video captures the terrifying roar of engines followed by shards of glass flying as the 159-foot (48.5 m) wingspan jet cleared the highway by mere inches. Debris from the shattered pole further damaged a nearby Jeep, highlighting a bizarre structural hazard at Newark Liberty International Airport.
