Toyota's Elfyn Evans encountered a flatbed truck at race speeds (approx. 160–180 kph / 100–112 mph), while a second vehicle from the same firm forced a red flag just before Yohan Rossel's Lancia started.

The Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) was handed a suspended €15,000 fine for the breach, which stewards labeled a severe safety failure.
