Just Released Footage Shows How Titanic Wreckage Looks After 14 Years
The RMS Titanic was a British passenger overseas steamer that sunk in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912.
The crash came after the ship crashed into an iceberg on its first route from Southampton to New York.
1,503 people lost their lives during the crash, with a total of 2,224 passengers and crew aboard the Titanic. Only 705 people survived the horrific accident due to non-compliance with safety regulations and crew misconduct.
The wreckage of the Titanic was discovered more than 70 years after its sinking, only in 1985. It was discovered by French-American explorer Robert Ballard, and Titanic became the most famous ship in the world at the time.
These days they have made a new dive to the Titanic, the first after fourteen years. The dive revealed that the wreck at a depth of 3.7 kilometers (2.3 miles) was rapidly turning into dust due to natural decomposition, according to a press release. The wreckage is in very poor condition, mainly due to strong sea currents, kerosene due to salts and bacteria that break down the metal.
