Venice Canals Almost Dry Amid Low Tides And Lack Of Rain

Venice has witnessed a very low tide in the past few days, as a result of which many tourist canals in the city have completely dried up.

Gondolas and lifeboats are thus unable to navigate the canals, and tourists who had hoped to sail on traditional boats were also left empty-handed.

The reason for such a low tide lies in the very small amount of precipitation - a large part of Italy has been plagued by a severe drought for some time, and in the past few days, in addition to the lack of rain, high pressure and a full moon took care of the dried-up canals.

In recent months, the Alps in Italy have seen more than 50% less snow than the average for the period. The lack of snow is a big problem, as snow is an important source of water for the coming spring and summer.
