World Record: Phone Survives a Drop From 30 Kilometers Above Earth

The smartphone reached an altitude where ordinary passenger planes do not even fly, before returning to Earth without a parachute. On June 24, 2026, RhinoShield, in collaboration with British space company Sent Into Space, carried out a record-breaking phone drop from an altitude of 30,607 metres (100,417 feet).

An iPhone inside an AirX protective case was lifted into the stratosphere by a helium-powered balloon over the Kiruna region of northern Sweden, near the Esrange Space Center. The device was then released and allowed to fall freely toward the ground.

The stunt was carried out under the strict rules of Guinness World Records, which required the device to land without the use of a parachute. The altitude of 30,607 metres (100,417 feet) earned the project a new world record for the highest drop of a mobile phone.
