Adult Red-Tailed Hawk Catches A Rat In Tompkins Square

Years ago, a video landed online showing a red-tailed hawk in one of the parks.

He waited patiently on the fence, then spotted a rat on the floor and quickly arranged a meal.

A red-tailed hawk named Christo is already a living legend in historic Tompkins Square Park, located in New York City. In the mentioned park, the birds have enough food - they hunt mostly rats, mice, squirrels, pigeons and small birds.

The red-tailed hawk is a bird of prey that breeds across most of North America, from the interior of Alaska and northern Canada all the way to Panama and the West Indies. It is one of the most common members of the genus Buteo in North America or worldwide.
