Blue Soldier Crabs Army Quickly Disappears Into The Sand

A few days ago, a video surfaced online showing a large group of blue soldier crabs.

The author of the video ran after small crabs on the beach, and then recorded the moment when the animals hid in the sand.

The blue soldier crab is a type of crab that lives on sandy beaches from the Bay of Bengal to Australia - with other members of the genus Mictyris, it is considered one of the most popular crabs in Australia. Adults are 25 mm in diameter, white with a blue back, and hold their claws vertically.

The blue soldier crab is often found in shallow waters and feeds on plant food and zooplankton. It has the ability of light synergy, which means it can emit light signals that it can use to communicate with other crustaceans and animals. This helps it to hunt for food as well as to avoid predators.

Watch the unusual sight of blue soldier crabs as they were caught on camera escaping in the coastal town of Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia.
