70 Contestants Battle in European Championship Gull Screeching Final
The Belgian coastal town of De Panne hosted the 6th European Gull Screeching Championship this Sunday, where Norway's Carine Gronholz clinched the title with a near-perfect vocal imitation.
While the performance appears purely comical, it follows a rigorous 100-point scoring system that demands technical precision.
More than 70 contestants from 15 countries competed – judges awarded 15 points for the authenticity of the call and 5 points for artistic performance. Remarkably, the adult winner's 90 points were outshone by youth champion Arne Nayaert, who secured a staggering 94 out of 100 possible points. This bizarre tradition aims to bridge the gap between humans and nature through absurd humor.
