Antonov An-12 Crashed After An Engine Caught On Fire In Kavala, Greece

An Ukrainian cargo plane that took off from Nis in Serbia crashed at night near the Greek city of Kavala in the north-east of the country.

During the flight, the pilot noticed problems with the engine and asked for an emergency landing in Kavala, but the plane never arrived at the airport there.

According to the latest information, the Ukrainian Antonov An-12 cargo plane was transporting weapons destined for Bangladesh. All eight crew members died, and the plane narrowly missed several houses. It took off from Nis, Serbia, and the crew was supposed to land in the Jordanian capital of Amman, but they ran into problems during the flight.

One of the engines caught fire, then the plane crashed about 25 miles (40 kilometers) before the airport in Kavala, where the pilot wanted to make an emergency landing. The plane was carrying weapons, causing more explosions after the crash.
