Here's a quick, easy, inexpensive way to seal foods airtight in a plastic-bag. All you need is a zipper-lock bag, and a tub or pot of water.

The difference though, is the vacuum pump creates a suction force, while the water method does not, thus it's not actually a true vacuum so this method is not recommended for long term storage.
