Triggering Avalanches On The Road To Stelvio Pass In Italy Before Clearing The Road
The Stelvio Pass is the highest asphalt mountain pass in the eastern Alps and the second highest in the entire Alps with its 2,757 m above sea level.
The pass is located in the Italian Alps north of Bormia in the province of Sondrio and south of Stilfs in the province of Bolzano-Bozen, some 75 km from Bolzano, near the Swiss border.
Last year, a video from a helicopter landed on the web, where an artificial triggered avalanche could be seen. The author took the entire event to the camera, and the scene took many people's breath away.
In the video from the helicopter we can see an avalanche that completely covered the narrow mountain road. They decided trigger the avalanche before they could plow the road over the mountain pass and at the same time provide safety.
See how a scene from the helicopter looked like when the avalanche was triggered at the Stelvio mountain pass!
