Huge Protests In Chile With Millions Singing Out On The Streets

Chile is shaken by protests that have been going on for weeks. Protests broke out in major cities as early as mid-October, when people had enough of rise of subway tickets.

The protests quickly spread into the worst since 1990, when the dictatorship of Augustus Pinochet ended.

These days, the internet has been surrounded by video footage from protest as tens of thousands of people sang one of the most internationally renowned songs of the New Chilean movement.

The song "El pueblo unido jamas será vencido", which translates as "The people united will never be defeated", is one of the renowned songs in Chile. The music was composed by Chilean composer Sergio Ortega Alvarado, with lyrics added later by Chilean music group Quilapayún.
